Family Education Programs

Virtual and in-person support for families with loved ones in treatment.

TREATMENT FOR:
Family and loved ones of those in treatment

AVAILABLE AT:
Online

LENGTH OF PROGRAM:
Varies

Watching someone you love struggle with addiction, depression, trauma, and other mental health disorders isn’t easy. In fact, it can take an emotional toll on families and loved ones. EHN Guardians offers three ways for families with a loved one in treatment for addiction or a mental health disorder to find support: Family Education Workshops, Families Connect, and Insite.

This has a two-fold benefit. First, it helps families and loved ones themselves to feel supported and to gain a better understanding of what can help them, along with the person in treatment. And second, it gives people the tools and knowledge they need to continue to support their loved one’s recovery journey – understanding addiction and mental illness and learning how to move forward together.

WHO CAN ATTEND FAMILY EDUCATION PROGRAMS?
Our Family Education Programs are open to all loved ones of a person in treatment at an EHN Guardians or EHN Canada facility. This includes spouses, children, parents, and even extended family members and close friends.

FAMILY EDUCATION PROGRAMS ARE OPEN TO THOSE WITHOUT A LOVED ONE IN TREATMENT
Do you have a loved one who is struggling with addiction or a mental health disorder, but they are not currently in treatment? Our Family Education Programs are still available to those who think they may benefit from them.

Families who want to attend these programs without a loved one in treatment can pay $499 (plus applicable provincial taxes.) If your loved one decides to enrol in a program at an EHN Guardians facility, this fee will be contributed to the overall cost of their program.

FIND SUPPORT WITH FAMILIES CONNECT

We understand that healing and recovery happen through connection. Families Connect is facilitated virtually each week. It provides individuals the opportunity to gain knowledge about emotional regulation and mindfulness, while gaining support and connection with others who share similar experiences.

  • This interactive session is hosted over Zoom, where families are invited to ask questions and engage in a conversation, if they would like.

GAIN UNDERSTANDING WITH INSITE

INSITE is an in-person facilitated group experience, at our EHN Edgewood Nanaimo facility, offering individuals an opportunity to learn how addiction and mental health impact the entire family system. It can help families and loved ones better understand how they have been impacted, as well as explore the patterns of behaviour that can develop as a result of living with or being close to a person who struggles with addiction or a mental disorder. Through presentations, group therapy and small group activities, families will also learn about tools that can help facilitate feeling supported.

  • Setting healthy boundaries
  • The generational impact of family relationships
  • Mindfulness (living in the present moment)
  • Codependence
  • Self-care
  • Communication and connection
  • Exploring your recovery
  • The cost of INSITE is $973.00 including GST, which covers accommodations, program materials, meals, and snacks.

LEARN WITH OUR FAMILY EDUCATION WORKSHOPS

Our Family Education Workshops take place over three half-days, (from 9:00 AM until 12:30 Pacific Time, and 12:00 to 3:30pm Eastern Time). This fully virtual  series of workshops are open to as many people as would like to attend. Over the course of the three sessions, loved ones will be taken through an educational presentation covering addiction and mental health disorders. Topics covered include:

  • Codependence
  • Emotional regulation and boundaries
  • Mindfulness meditation
  • Self compassion
  • Your journey to getting the support you need
