AVAILABLE AT
EHN Guardians Gateway, EHN Guardians Atlantic, EHN Guardians Nanaimo, EHN Nouveau Départ, EHN Bellwood Toronto

LENGTH OF PROGRAM

The Trauma and Psychological Injury Program is intended for individuals whose primary diagnosis is related to an operational stress injury—such as those experienced by members of the Canadian Armed Forces (DND), Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), RCMP, police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and other first responders. Admission to this program requires the presence of operational trauma and is best suited for individuals who are not currently struggling with substance use. For those experiencing both trauma and addiction, our Concurrent Trauma and Addiction Program may be more appropriate.

Our Trauma and & Psychological Injury Program includes:

  • Client-centered and holistic, measurement-based clinical treatment for those experiencing trauma and/or psychological/moral injury
  • A combination of therapies including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure Therapy, EMDR, Trauma-Focused, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)
  • Masters-level clinicians with extensive experience treating trauma and working within the Guardians community
  • Treatment delivered in individual and group therapy format
  • Certified physicians and nurses on site
  • Access to psychiatrists
  • 24/7 medical support from our medical team including physicians and nurses
  • Integrated and holistic approach to care with a variety of adjunct therapeutic activities, including recreation therapy, yoga, meditation, fitness classes, nutrition and sleep hygiene support
  • Weekend programming
  • One year of Aftercare virtual group support, including relapse prevention monitoring
  • Stepped care model allowing for early intervention when risk of relapse is identified

HERE’S WHAT A DAY IN TREATMENT COULD LIKE

While no two stays at our EHN Guardians treatment facilities are the same, here is what a typical day might look like in our Trauma and Psychological Injury Program.

MORNING

Start the day with a healthy, freshly prepared breakfast, before attending a psychoeducational session on different topics, for example managing guilt or setting healthy boundaries. Then you’ll set your intentions for the day with self-reflection, followed by a workout.

AFTERNOON

After lunch, participate in a lecture that explains how the mind-body connection affects trauma recovery. Then attend a one-on-one or group therapy session to learn how to cope with triggers

EVENING

Participate in specialized, trauma-centred peer support groups focused on symptoms management, emotional processing, or returning to work. After some mindfulness, you’ll enjoy dinner with fellow clients.

Continuing support for ongoing success

Support from EHN Guardians does not end once you step out the door. We believe that ongoing recovery requires ongoing care. That’s why one year of Aftercare, an important part of relapse prevention and monitoring, is included for all eligible alumni.

To further strengthen your commitment to continued recovery, we also offer access to our app-based support. This tool enables you to set personalized goals, track your progress, and stay mindful of potential triggers, ensuring you remain proactive in your recovery journey.

The Aftercare Program also aims at helping you identify risks of relapse and obtaining the guidance and recommendations you may need for early intervention if required.
